Victoria Song – Up To Me: Music Review

Victoria Song has finally released her 1st solo album titled VICTORIA. Unfortunately, this record is not available on international streaming platforms, so I can only react to the title track – “Up To Me” since it was posted on YouTube.

Here is the album highlight medley for anyone interested – img_6645Song Qian popularly known as Victoria or Victoria Song is a Chinese singer, dancer, model and actress. She was born on February 2nd, 1987. In 2009 she debuted in South Korea under SM Entertainment as the leader of the girl group – f(x). She gained fame after appearing with 2PM’s Nickhun in the Korean variety program – We Got Married. Victoria is currently managed by Song Qian Studio, and this new album marks her official debut as a solo artist.

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to this song.)

Reaction to Title Track/MV:

  • Apparently, this album was supposed to be released three years ago. Hence why the music video style seems a bit outdated.
  • Also, there are no English captions.
  • I love the very bright coloured visuals.
  • The song starts out with a soft piano and guitar.
  • The distorted sound that plays before Victoria’s vocal entry makes me feel like I’m entering space.
  • The instrumental is bubbly but not too upbeat.
  • She sounds good, and I love the rap-singing style she used on this track.
  • The choreography is simple and adorable.
  • The electronic sound isn’t overdone on this track. The EDM elements are slightly laid back on this one.
  • It’s a nice song, but I’m not really getting into the vibe.
  • I wish I could hear the entire album because I could find other songs that I love among the B-sides.img_6213
  • From the highlight medley, I like the sound of track 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9 and of course 10 because that is “Roof on Fire”
  • I feel like “Broken Wings” would have been my favourite new song on this album.
  • I will check later to see if any audio files get uploaded to YouTube because, as of now, there’s nothing.
  • Her studio needs to release this album on international platforms because she has international fans who want to support her.
  • Alright, before I give my final rating, I’m going to listen to “Up To Me” again.
  • I definitely love the retro sound and visuals.
  • I appreciate the cute choreography.
  • Victoria sounds fantastic, but “Up To Me” isn’t the kind of song I see myself going back to a lot. So my rating is 7.5/10.

Final Thoughts:

Even though the title track wasn’t to my taste, I am super thrilled that Victoria finally released her solo album, and I can’t wait to have access to the full record. You all best believe that once I get my hands on the album, I will be giving her a proper review.
