The chosen songs for this week are I Like You and Shoot Me by DAY6.
Recently I did a major DAY6 marathon as a prep for their comeback. And ever since then, these two songs have been stuck in my head. So instead of picking one, I decided to use both as my songs for this week.
DAY6 is a South Korean band managed by JYP Entertainment. The group has five members: Jae, Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil and Dowoon. They officially debuted in 2015 with their first mini-album, The Day.
“I Like You” is the title track for their second studio album – Moonrise, which was released on the 6th of December, 2017.
This is such a compelling rock ballad from DAY6. My favourite part of this song is the chorus because of how powerful their voices sound in that section. It really shows the sincerity of confessing your love for someone. I also love the part when Jae sings, “I’ll be fine.” It gives me chills. That part is around the 3:00 minute mark of the music video. Anytime I listen to “I Like You,” I wonder how amazing it will be to see them perform it live because the instrumentalization on this is too good. Playing instruments and singing at the same, takes a lot of hard work and practice. They deserve more recognition.
“Shoot Me” is the title track for their third EP – Shoot Me: Youth Part 1. It was released on the 26th of June, 2018.
I admire the message of this song. The phrase “Vicious words hurt like a bullet” was printed on the teaser images for this track. The fact that it has become a thing now for people to just hate on others randomly is sad. Most people think bullying is only when you use force. But incentive and hurtful words directed to another person is also bullying. If you have nothing good to say, then be quiet, and a critique is no longer a critique once it begins with insults. BEING KIND SHOULD NOT BE HARD.
Anyways “Shoot Me” is another fantastic song from DAY6. I am in awe of the instrumentalization on this track, It is outstanding. Every member did great, but Dowoon really killed it on those drums, he is so talented. I also really love the chorus on this song, but my favourite part is the bridge section that starts at the 1:54 minute mark of the music video. And as always, they served vocals.
DAY6 never disappoints. They really do not have any bad songs in their discography. I have listened to all their title tracks, B-sides, singles and even OSTs, and all were equally great. They are one of those few bands that will have you adding their entire album to your playlist. So if you have not checked them out already, go watch their music videos and listen to their records. Please do not sleep on DAY6 because they are really talented.
If you are already a fan, then how excited are you for their comeback? I am so happy 😁😁.
That is all for this post, take care💖💖.
